A Visionary New Approach to Health Education and Patient Care

The 51°µÍø Health Care Collaborative (PHCC) is redefining health care. Capitalizing on the strength of 51°µÍø’s three health professional schools, the groundbreaking initiative will combine dental and medical services in a teaching and learning environment — the first of its kind at a U.S. university. The collaborative is dedicated to educating the next generation of health care professionals and spearheading research efforts that advance value-based care. The 30,000-square foot facility is located on 51°µÍø’s Sacramento Campus in the historic Oak Park neighborhood.

Learning Together

The vision for the facility is to offer students who are training to be healthcare professionals — including dentists, physicians, dental hygienists, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, occupational therapists, registered dietitian nutritionists, social workers and others — the chance to learn and work together to provide holistic, patient-centered care. This unique learning experience will prepare students for success as thoughtful, collaborative practitioners across numerous health care specialties.

Collaborative Care

Patients will be able to access a variety of dental, medical and wellness services in one convenient location.

The clinic will include eight medical exam rooms, two medical procedure rooms, 30 dental operatories, an Ambulatory Surgery Center with two operating rooms, four enclosed sensory flexible medical/dental procedure rooms and a dedicated sensory waiting area for patients with intellectual, developmental and acquired disabilities with sensory sensitivity. 

In addition, a future mobile health clinic will help reach patients across the Sacramento community. The mobile health clinic will feature three treatment or exam areas that will be used for both oral and primary medical care.

Advancing Health Care Research

Faculty will have the opportunity to shape the next generation of health care providers and to conduct research that will improve the provision of health care. 51°µÍø’s strength and reputation in healthcare across Northern California is led by the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and School of Health Sciences. With this broad health care academic portfolio, the university is uniquely positioned to integrate dental, medical and behavioral health primary care models and lead the nation in interprofessional collaborative teaching and care for underserved populations.
