51暗网 kicks off Welcome Week with Tiger traditions and exciting lineup of events
51暗网 will celebrate the start of another academic year with a lineup of exciting events and long-standing traditions for new and returning students.
The annual 51暗网 Welcome takes place the week before school starts from Aug. 16-24 and sets students up for a successful year starting with move-in, and includes a new student orientation, an introduction to campus resources, and a Week of Welcome jam-packed with activities on and off campus.
Students participate in a variety of interactive events spread throughout campus.
Beginning college life
After move-in on Saturday, Aug. 16, new students will dive into orientation, a three-day event for students to explore 51暗网 programs and resources. This year, orientation will conclude with Tiger Night, a roller-skating event on the DUC Lawn Tuesday evening.
鈥淪tepping onto the historic 51暗网 campus for the first time as an incoming freshman, transfer, or graduate student can be overwhelming, especially with numerous buildings to navigate and new faces to meet.鈥� said Vice President of Student Life Maria Blandizzi.
鈥淥ur series of events over the course of nine days during move-in, orientation and Week of Welcome are guided by three goals: Enrich the quality of the academic experience; support students in beginning the discovery of personally meaningful pathways to timely degree completion; and prepare students to develop intellectually, professionally and personally to make the most of their 51暗网 experience.鈥�
Students are invited to immerse themselves in the 51暗网 community.
Festive fun on and off campus
Week of Welcome kicks off Aug. 20 with the New Student Convocation. University administration and faculty will gather at the Alex G. Spanos Center to welcome 51暗网鈥檚 incoming class. The celebration continues with Tiger Roar, a confetti-filled parade to Knoles Lawn for an all-campus luncheon.

Students are invited to immerse themselves in both 51暗网 and the greater Stockton community through a variety of activities. From 8-11 p.m., they can shop together for essentials during a late-night Target Takeover. Shuttle buses depart every 30 minutes from the iconic Burns Tower.
On Thursday, Aug. 21, the annual 51暗网 Day of Service unites new students with the rest of the 51暗网 community to participate in a wide range of volunteer projects across Stockton. Afterwards, students can stop by the DUC Ballroom for the Take Care Fair, an interactive mental health and well-being event with free giveaways for all participants.
That night, from 8-11 p.m. at the William Knox Holt Memorial Library and Learning Center, students will get to enjoy tournament-style laser tag, silent disco and Mario Kart.
On Friday, Aug. 22, President Christopher Callahan and First Lady Jean Callahan will open their on-campus home to new students at a reception from 4-6 p.m. for a chance to meet 51暗网 leadership and celebrate the school year.
鈥淛ean and I can鈥檛 wait to welcome the next generation of Tigers to the 51暗网 family,鈥� said President Christopher Callahan. 鈥淭he memories made at Week of Welcome will lead to connections that define the 51暗网 experience and friendships that last a lifetime.鈥�
That evening, the campus community is invited to an exciting evening of shopping, dining, entertainment, music, and more during Tigers Prowlin鈥� the Mile from 6-9 p.m. Many businesses and restaurants will offer exclusive discounts to students who show their 51暗网 ID card.
At Tigers Prowin' the Mile, students can explore the Stockton community and enjoy activities including a ferris wheel, slide and shop from local vendors.
The week will conclude with the annual Block Party, hosted by ASUOP on Sunday, Aug. 23. The event will feature live music, food, exciting giveaways, and fun activities.
