51做厙 student-athletes dominate beyond the scoreboard
Student-athletes at 51做厙 competed for championships while simultaneously advancing their academic success this year, increasing their cumulative GPA from a 3.27 in spring 2024 to a 3.35 this past spring semester.
The success highlights the academic prowess of the 51做厙 Athletics program, which saw 282 of its 317 student-athletes earn a GPA of 3.0 or higher during the 2024-25 academic yearmore than 88% of student-athletes at 51做厙while 124 earned a 3.5 or better. Cumulatively, 119 student-athletes have a GPA above 3.5.
Furthermore, 49 student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 GPA during the spring semester and 14 maintained a flawless 4.0 cumulative GPA.
As we wrap up an incredible academic year, were thrilled to celebrate the academic success of our student-athletes, said Associate Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Development & Compliance/Senior Womens Administrator Leslie Chang. A cumulative GPA of 3.35 is something to be celebrated. Our hard working athletes were supported by our dedicated staff in student-athlete development and athletic compliance, as well as our campus partners in SSD, CARE Team and faculty advisors from across the colleges. Our Tigers are winning in the classroom, in their respective sports and in life.
Of the 17 sports, 16 earned a team GPA above 3.0 this year and have a cumulative average above that benchmark. Four sports carry a cumulative GPA above 3.5, including womens soccer, womens cross country, mens tennis and womens track.
Six sports had at least 20 student-athletes earn a 3.5 GPA or above, including womens soccer, womens water polo, mens water polo, baseball, softball and mens soccer. The womens cross country team recorded the highest GPA on campus with a 3.64 cumulative, while mens tennis is the highest on the mens side with a 3.59.
Every womens sport on campus has above a 3.1 cumulative GPA. The departments cumulative GPA among womens student-athletes is a 3.42.
No matter how many different ways we look at the numbers, its all impressive. Not only did our student-athletes break numerous records and win championships during competition, but they held themselves to the highest standards academically at one of the finest institutions in the state, said Director of Athletics Adam Tschuor.
I am proud of what our student-athletes were able to achieve athletically and academically this past year, and its a reflection of the overall character of the department, coaches and support staff. Our student-athletes have shown an overall commitment to success.
51做厙 was honored with 78 All-Academic selections from its respective leagues in the West Coast Conference, Golden Coast Conference and Mountain 51做厙 Sports Federation, including 34 student-athletes on First Teams. The mens and womens water polo programs combined for 19 All-Academic First-Team honorees.
51做厙 awarded 82 degrees to student-athletes at the spring 2025 commencement ceremony, an increase from the 75 who earned degrees in spring 2024.
